Twenty five years ago Vincent Soltes began work at the Cylinder State Bank last week. Edna Martini resigns from the bank to attend St Catherine's College in St Paul. A J Swanton sold his Worthington theater. he is E G Swanton's brother. A farewell party for Mrs Dealy at the D of L was held with a thermos bottle as a gift. Berney Farrell returned from the Twin Cities after visiting his daughter Vernes at Minnesota State Fair. P F Tatthoten is reported dangerously ill, with auditors summoned to his bedside. John, son of Mr and Mrs Pani Fhenz, fell from a tree and sustained multiple injuries but survived. Bernadalla Bougharty returns home from Washington D C where she served in government work. A local student accepted a position at the high school and will use athletic facilities in duties.
Ducks plentiful for some hunters at Hesvasen opening day with teal mallards gadwalls and shovelers among the catches. Dry spells threaten sloughs and fewer hunting spots this season though heavy rains could save remaining ponds. Emmetsburg servicemen Chuck Stillman and brothers plus Lieuts Ryan and Morling all reported limits at Stillman’s slough and Mud Lake sites.
Fin erbarian and two of his brothers from Jewell, Dr Louis Jacobson and Albert Jacobson, begin the season with solid cricket shots, while the R W Ashby family adds a cocker spaniel of high quality. Dr H L Brereton owns a boat and new motor on Five Island lake, purchased from Montgomery boat works. previously from Ivan Mundt’s West Okoboji fleet. The outboard is fast, but not that fast.
The event opened with heavy attendance at eight o'clock and later, as the hall and store windows glowed with decoration and music filled the room. Performers including Mrs Tormey and Misses Lillida Bley Vivian O'Balloran Florence O'Brien and Nelile Crowley showcased fall outfits while the audience enjoyed selections.

Bernard Solbergs welcome a baby boy Saturday at Emmetsburg Hospital while the family enjoys two boys and a girl. Lynus Solberg stayed with Truman Thompson's family last week. Spencer callers included Mrs Betty Gildseth Gilbertson Nelson Wright. Algona visitors Odne Stokka Kaminy called on Saturday. Fort Dodge travelers John Brakke stopped in for business. Rockford visitors Mr and Mrs Harlowe Johnson and Roberta visited Theodore Johnson. More Thursday and Thursday afternoon visits from Jensvold siblings and Lloyd Jensvold at Theodore Johnson’s home.
Thelma Knutson of South Bend and Russell Elliott of Charles City visit the Thoreson household with their young son Tommy as family ties and army service updates appear. A son named Larry Duane born to Theodore Winters and his wife on September 13 is noted, while A. T. Lundgren seeks medical aid in Iowa City with other hospital patients, and Joe Abel relocates to St Paul with family awaiting husband’s discharge. Howard Horsewell returns to Chicago after a three day visit, Wayne Masters spends a weekend home as basic army training begins. A bazaar and supper fill Immaculate Conception church crowds, C A Brown pursues medical attention in Town City, and the Methodist Ladies Aid plans an October 4 bazaar. G HS 1945 graduate Benty Appel enrolls at Luther College Decorah.
Funeral services were held Saturday for A BicClelland 64 Os good farmer who died September 18 in the local hospital. The Rev A J Schuldt officiated at the Methodist church with pallbearers Merle Hankey Melvin Smith Fred Brown Ed Herke James Kane and Garvin Mills. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery under Foy Funeral home direction. Born in Pennsylvania McClelland moved to the Osgood community at 16 except for a year at Fontana. He was seen as a kindly neighbor devoted to family. Surviving children include Robert and Juanita McClelland Aletta Pope Alma Daniels Frances Dobson Hazel Hamilton Alice McClelland and Gladys Lewis. Two sisters Mrs Susie Moore and Mrs Ide Glipstricks and a brother Horace McClelland also survive plus 15 grandchildren.
West Coast visitors from Long Beach California arrived for a family visit with relatives at Maliant and Pocahontas. Mr and Mrs Fr Snitz of Minong Wisconsin left after several days visiting the Chas Smith home. Mrs Hervey Walker and daughter Janet returned home by bus from Sioux City after attending the Northwest Iowa conference in Estherville. Mr and Mrs R R Cijka of Wate welcomed a son Ronald Clarence born September 8 at their home. Mrs Cejka is the Sundermeyer daughter.
Members of St. Pauls Lutheran church are building a cement driveway and curb at the parsonage. The new drive leads to the pastor Rev A. Ansome and is a notable improvement. The men donate their labor to the project.
