Evans Convicted of False Pretense Charge
Fred L. Evans of this city was convicted by a Calhoun county jury last Wednesday of property by false pretense after deliberating less than an hour. The charge stemmed from dealings with Mrs Otto of Manson dating to 1835. Evans had induced her to transfer shares of stock claimed to be government funds. He was granted fifteen days to motion for a new trial. Contains miscopied names and dates from the damaged text.
