Boise May 20 jurors in the William D Haywood murder case experience extended examination and peremptory challenges. Walter Shaw and W N Rudge are excused, Talisman M G Goodwin is seated, bringing the jury’s average age to about sixty.
Gaston GC Philip of New York and Washington, a prominent clubman, shot night carriage driver Frank B Mockabee during a dispute over a supposed commission. Mockabee was wounded critically in the left breast and taken to Emergency hospital. Philip was arrested and held at police headquarters.
Temperance Commissioner Murray presided as 217,000 dollars worth of whiskey unearthed in a cave was destroyed. The seizure, the first under the new prohibition law, occurred during a state capitol grounds picnic attended with owner offering no resistance. Murray reports April shipments of whiskey sold as medicine and threatens action to revoke licenses.
