Sheriff Dick Miller led an intensive search Wednesday for vandals who damaged several Palo Alto County 4-H fairground buildings early this week. Damages are estimated in the hundreds of dollars, with paint poured on floors and doors broken in the commercial exhibits building and other structures.
Reports describe attempts to pry open windows and damage padlocked properties across four to seventeen buildings. Vandals caused extensive entry and property destruction, with authorities promising the harshest punishment if caught.
The 1948 spring term concludes with May 17 commencement led by Rev. Hew Fiober of the University of Town. Freshmen to seniors finish classes by May 17. senior exams, a May 14 concert, and May 16 graduation practice are listed along with other events and a rural school chorus concert on March 12.

Donna Apngfrong, daughter of Cyril Armstrong and Mrs, recovered from a near accident at West Side School recess. She was rushed to Mason City Hospital where a bracelet chain injury to her valve was repaired in surgery. She regained normal use and returned to school.
The annual lieigion contest at Emimetshire Catholic High School gym Friday April 0 held Marys grade school jupile with judges and a large crowd. Carol Dailey and Janet Bormann won with perfect scores marking standout performances by Madeline Chirol Dailey John Molloy Mary Murphy and others. The next speech contest is scheduled for Friday May ab 8220 9h in the gymnasium with listed contestants.

The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors awarded three bids totaling 67690 for grading 28.70 miles of the county secondary road system and related work. Adolph G. Anderson of Spencer receives 22220 for 19.95 miles in the south, Buckwalter of Laurens 25410 for 14.76 miles, with work set to begin June 16 for Anderson and July 15 for Buckwalter, finished by November 1.

Paul Kliegl 17, catcher for Emmetsburg Catholic High, suffered a broken pelvic bone after Curlew third baseman Stokes collided with him while attempting to score on a grounder during a Tuesday Legion Park game. He was removed by ambulance and hospitalized for treatment, with doctors hopeful for a satisfactory recovery.

City council at Emmetsburg met to set a ten day deadline to repair Rock Island and Milwaukee road grade crossings on East Main Seventh Eleventh Grand Avenue and Lake Street. The effort follows long urging by the Chamber of Commerce and local groups to ease motorist jolt at crossings. The vote also authorized twelve 15 minute parking meters per block on Main and Grand avenues.
