Attend Witla Party Honors Mrs Norman Tow at Mallard Birthday

Mrs Norman Tow of Mallard was honored at a 2 birthday party at her home Thursday evening. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Volinny Bené family Mr and Mrs Tonig and family Mr and Mrs Lloyd Strand Mrs Glaa va Naig and family Ole Pwallen of Depew Mr and Mrs Maurice Allen Mr and Mrs Wayne Smith of Mallard Mrs Julia Oneson Perry Oneson Mrs Addie Allen and son Anleigh and Miss Darling Crouch of Emmetsburg. Tow received many niece gifts and refreshments were served.

Final Rites Planned for George McQuown

The death of George Robert McQuown occurred March 21 at Glenwood. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Free Methodist Church with Rev. John Cros officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlin Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers are Marion Vanderby Lowell Fessler Herbert Myer Floyd Myer Clarence Anderson Floyd Caloun. He was son of Lee and Mrs. McQuown of Emmetsburg, born December 12, 1921 in Monroe Iowa. Surviving siblings include Ralph in Mallard Leland in Cylinder and Mrs. Ordeau Knutson Dolliver among others. Sympathy offered to the family.

Local Cooperative Elects New Board Members

A board member was elected and La Son was re elected. The Cylinder cooperative counts 663 farmer members in the community. Entertainment before the meeting featured radio talent from station WHO with Dixie Lee Jordan directing.

Jacobs Trial Continues With Emmetsburg Figures Testifying

The Jacobs trial resumed on tram page one with a list of witnesses including Christine Morrison Emmetsburg A E Zech Mallard George Godden Emmetsburg Mrs Justin Thompson Cylinder Percy Renda Mallard Kenneth Truelson Mallard Olaf Nelson Ruthven Fred Domek Cylinder Mildred Walter Rodman Fred Truog Curlew and John J Brown Emmetsburg County Attorney Joseph P Hand led the state defense by Leslie Prichard Burt and Prichard. The case drew strong interest as Emmetsburg High School government students observed. Six witnesses testified over two days.

West Bend Assault Witness Describes Blow That Fractured Jaw

Bonnstetter testified Jacobs struck him on the street in West Bend without warning, knocking him several feet and fracturing his jaw. Bernard and Donald Richter supported Bonnstetter’s account, saying they were with him during the evening as the altercation occurred. The Richters and others testified about travels between West Bend and Whittemore during the incident.

Witnesses describe fatal shooting amid tavern dispute

The defendants recount driving past when Bennstetter was struck. George Christensen testified for the state on minor details. Jacobs, sole defense witness, admitted firing Bennstetter claiming justification after Bennstetter cursed him and insulted his mother. Jacobs also admitted a prior felony conviction.
