Local families report early morning train trips to Spencer for a Babe Ruth Day event. Several households mention vacations, visits, and relatives across Iowa and Minnesota, with updates on colleagues and friends touring lakes, gatherings, and weddings, plus residents traveling to Minneapolis for medical checks and reunions.
The Jolly Workers held a June meeting at Marietta Klieg s home. Roll call cited improving personal appearance. Betty Myer presided over a business session. Vonnie Olsberg spoke on hairstyles for young girls. Members then worked on long time record books and shared a lunch prepared by the hostess and her mother.
Miss Joyce McDonald daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry McDonald Ruthven wed Dale Webster son of Mrs Sanford Ayrshire and Thrace Webster Cylinder in a 2 pm June 20 ceremony at the Methodist church Ayrshire. Rev Howdeshel performed the double ring rite. Bride wore sharkskin street length gown with pink rose corsage. matron of honor Margaret Trustan Hartley wore steel blue dress. Richard Dyar Ayrshire was groomsman. Donna McDonald Graetlinger and Eldon Thouse Ayrshire were ushers.
The groom's mother wore a grey frock with pluck accessories and the bride's mother wore an eel blue dress with navy accessories. Both mothers wore pink carnation corsages. Coletta Craft sang nuptial music with Miss Betty Johnson at the organ. A reception for fifty-five relatives followed at 4 pm with pink and white decorations and a three tier wedding cake topped by a miniature bride. The bride, a 1948 GVietlinger graduate, worked since graduation at Nichol Co. in Emmetsburg. The groom, an Emmetsburg High School graduate who served in the army, is now with Varese Brothers in Emmetsburg. The couple left for a week in Des Moines after the reception.
Mesdames James W. Sharp Leslie Drichard Kyle Jones and A. J Burt entertained a large company at the Kermore Hotel Wednesday afternoon. Guests sat at small tables, then enjoyed luncheon and bridge. Mrs. Allen Bailey won high score, Mrs. William Fife second, Abs. David Amspoker drew the prize. Non players enjoyed informal entertainment with Mrs. H. M. Helgen winning a special award.
From out of town including Mrs. George Burne of Thermopolis Montana Mrs. Ethelyn Gregg of Ruthven Mrs. John Krape of Denver Colo Mrs. Albert Houlig han of Council Bluffs Mrs. James Ausland of Curlew and Ars J A Spies and Mrs Elizabeth Hossack of Graeitinger were listed as attendees.
