Senator Culver will chair a Senate Environmental Pollution Subcommittee hearing on water quality in LeMars on June 24 at 9 30 a m in the Terrace Room of Westmar College. The fifth in a series, the session invites Iowans to testify on the Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 and its impact.
Dear Editor a national beef referendum will be voted on next week and local cattle producers are urged to vote yes. Iowa Republicans announce a major 1978 legislative campaign with Russ Cross named campaign director to organize candidate support and outreach across the state. The beef plan funds advertising research and marketing through a 30 cent per hundred cattle sale deduction, administered by top producers to boost markets and industry improvements. Byron Pirie Mallard Iowa signed the appeal urging bloc support for the referendum.
Washington hearing witnesses urged strong action to curb child pornography and backed Senator John Culver's proposed federal crime for recording sexual conduct of a child. Deputy AG Peter Flaherty called the bill the best deterrent while warning constitutional concerns. Culver said swift Senate action would begin addressing child abuse and juvenile issues.
