A three day Rural Young Peoples Camp to be held at Camp Foster Okoboji from June 19 to 21 offers leadership training, discussions, and recreation for young farm people in Iowa. Speakers include R. E K Bliss, Frances Johnson, L. V. Loy, Fannie Buchanan and Harold Templeton. Palo Alto county attendees include a girls trio boys quartette and a one act play cast for Saturday amateur night.
Palo Alto county to be represented at the state public speaking contest in Ames Iowa on June 24 by Mrs Theo Hermanson Lost Island township. Contest linked to county life institute and 4 H girls state convention with winner advancing to district and then national competition. Stan Stanley and his fourteen member orchestra performs at Lakeside Pavilion Etimeravurg Iowa on June 18 featuring Von Elkins ten violinists an original saxophone sextet and four trombones. The group played 50 instruments in total and was once rated thirtieth of sixty top radio orchestras in a 1933 Radio Guide poll. They opened the Texas Centennial Year Celebration at the Hilton El Paso on January 1 1936.

Registered seed must be pure, from registered stock, and bag sealed. certified seed can be lighter and allow weed seeds. G. Culbertson of the Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station at Ames says beef cattle on lush spring bluegrass pasture do not require protein supplements. He notes only in July and August when grass dries and fiber rises should a supplement become worthwhile.
Ant control tips from Mrs Margaret Dunkelberg advise starving ants by removing all food sources and sealing pantry cracks. Use sugar water arsenate or tartar emetic baits placed near trails, with care for children, and destroy reachable nests when found.
Miss Margaret Dunkelberg advises selecting deep red hearted berries for canning to secure color and flavor. To enhance display for contests and dinners, sort for uniform size and plump berries by gently boiling with sugar and water, then cooling overnight to let juice absorb.
The berries are heated to boiling the next morning and packed in jars. Sealed jars are laid on their sides until cold and their positions changed at intervals to prevent movement to the top.

Fourteen to eleven year old 4-H members will survey farms and communities to aid rural electrification. The project, sponsored by Westinghouse, offers scholarships 480 300 and 200 and trips to the national club congress in Chicago. Loans from the federal Rural Electrification Administration support building lines. Rules available from county extension agents.
