Harding Downs The Dry Forces in Iowa
The Republican primary in Iowa produced decisive results with Harding winning the Beverney nomination by a large majority and at least 45 percent of the total vote. Moore carried the lieutenant-governor race, Wilson led for attorney-general, Allen for secretary of state, and Gusher for railroad commissioner, while Dr. Kulp trailed. The Democratic slate faced no opposition, and Meredith drew lighter support for the state senator nomination. Adams of Algona led in statewide counts, with strong showings in Dickinson, Emmet, and Palo Alto counties. Frank Woods likely won the congressional district race, though Ottsen posted a solid showing. The woman suffrage amendment narrowly failed, carried in only two precincts, with mixed county results across the district. Local contests included representative and supervisor races, with Suss defeating Brekke for supervisor and Jackson beating Bilis for sheriff. Precinct tallies for governor, railroad commissioner, and other contested posts were provided.
