Residents report a severe hailstorm in West Bend and surrounding Palo Alto County on May 26 to June 1. Reports describe hail up to large sizes, two inches of rain since May 26, and damage mainly in a two mile radius outside West Bend city limits. Farmers note minimal crop loss and continued unsettled weather with strong southerly winds.
Five people were injured in a two car crash north of Cylinder near Sun Hospital. Two adults and three others were taken to Palo Alto Memorial Hospital where two have been released. others expected to leave by week’s end. Involved were Donald Mortland and family in one car and John R. Smith and Jesse Spiller in the other. Children escaped with minor scratches.
Emmetsburg loses 15 to Bancroft Junior Legion after strong pitching by Tom Molloy and Tim Jackson. Bancroft’s Clark limited Emmetsburg to nine hits while Hand and Ford lead coaching efforts. Squad includes Brow LB, McAllister, Foy, Hand, Ford, and Farrell as local baseball prospects.
David Rudder Alexander, born August 21 1865 in Blandinsville Illinois, died May 26 at his Estherville home of a heart attack. Funeral services conducted at Estherville with burial in Emmetsburg. He married Margaret Ruby Soper in 1894 and practiced law in Emmetsburg and Estherville. He retired three years ago after a long career with the firm Saper ani Alexan der. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge.
Leo Jensvold claimed top honors in a golf tournament with a large field of 252 medalists competing. The event featured notable players and a mix of beginner and advanced participants, with Jensvold achieving the winning score and the crowd watching the final holes closely.
Miss Ehrig led Emmetsburg store to win the Woodward organization sales contest during the three weeks before Easter. The Harrah plan yielded earnings totaling more than rival stores.
Clalto district scouts from Palo Alto and Clay counties will tour St Louis from August 12 to 19. A highlight is a night game between St Louis and Milwaukee with scouts as guests of the Cardinals. The journey includes educational sightseeing and minimal personal expense beyond meals.

Plans for a five or more event rodeo on June 19 at Kerm Reeves Riverdale ranch promise a larger crowd. Sponsor Reeves, a well known local farmer and horseman, attracted big attendance at the arena’s first rodeo last fall with the famed Sac City all Palomino Drill amid ample parking and amphitheatre seating.

Marlin Erickson son of Elmer and Mrs. Erickson from St Paul left by plane on June 1 to Hornell New York to play ball this summer with the Dodgers.
