The Freedom Homemakers club marked its 25 year history with a July 1 celebration at Mrs. G. J. Miller’s home. About 103 women attended as organizers presented memories of the club’s long service, with songs, a history play, and attendees including former presidents and guests from Emmetsburg and nearby towns.
Happy Helpers met June 25 at Hauschen home with eight members and five visitors. Joan Hauschen led Points to Remember in Fitting a Dress. Berniece Hauschen spoke on Sewing on Snappers. Mrs. Dammann demonstrated sewing machine use. Camp selections and alternates announced. Next meeting July 9 with religious lunch served. Fairfield True Workers met at Mrs Norland’s home with 11 present. roll call on favorite color. Alice Sikora chosen as delegate to Ames convention. Pattern work for a blouse and knitting demonstration by Barbara Higgins. Rotary club heard Lon Helgen discuss a fishing trip. Knights of Columbus council holds regular meeting with Grand Knight John F Finn. social hour to follow. Four Hostesses entertained a large group at Kermuhre hotel. bridge prizes won by Mrs Pp G. Dickman and Mrs Daniel Kelly. consolation to Mrs W E Irish. special prize to Mrs Elizabeth Hossack of Graettinger. Abe Fertain and Mrs HB Doyle hosted a bridge gathering June 29. high score to Mrs C C Brownles, row award to Mrs Leo Brownlee.
The Rev J G Thompson pastor of Bethany Lutheran since 1925 will preach a farewell sermon at the Sunday morning service. In the evening the congregation will honor the Thompsons as they prepare to leave Emmetsburg for Prairie Farm Wisconsin to serve a larger rural parish. A truck will load furnishings Tuesday and if ready they depart in the afternoon, else start the drive Wednesday morning.
The Congregation has bought four business lots for a new church site and raised a building fund of 520,000. Plans have been adopted, parsonage improvements completed, and a 1,800 mortgage paid. A spring gift of a new automobile to Rev. Mr. Thompson honors his work. He led Litharan church activities and held multiple regional posts. The project features new floors, a rebuilt kitchen, upgraded garage, and striped awnings, with modern hot water heating and rest rooms. NEARY'S STAFF and local contractors, including Vandervelde, BeGregor Bros., White and Pitcher, Brennan Electric, and Fred Christensen, contributed to construction.
Justice of the Peace presided for a Wednesday wedding in Pella. Axel Smith, 48, and Bertha Voss, 44, were joined in marriage with witnesses arranged at the couple’s request.
The city pit across from Tert Ryan's farm will host a brief fire fighting demonstration lasting about fifteen minutes. Fire official Far says it will benefit merchants and others by showing how to protect stocks and buildings.
