State 4-H officials announced an eight day program for the Iowa Junior State Fair in Des Moines from August 25 to September 1. Laurens San area resident N Barer of Pome- Toy recovered a weather recording instrument released by the Weather Bureau in Omaha. Six instruments are sent aloft monthly on rubber balloons. This unit rose on the Tri day of June and was found June 15. It reported 52,000 feet with temperatures of 60 below zero at 40,000 feet and 50 below at 52,000 feet. Arnolds Park Lad Killed in Ice Plant
Hubert Swarner 13 of Arnolds Park died at 7 am Thursday from injuries after a heavy ice chunk fell from an upper floor of his father's ice plant striking and crushing his head. He had been unconscious since the accident Tuesday. The tragedy occurred as he watched workers on the ground near a truck. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm in Arnolds Park. Surviving are his parents a brother Marino and three sisters.
