Des Moines area notes from the Iowa 1918 legislature cover a party primary reform vote four to one in favor, proposed governor and U S officials nominated by primary, state officers by convention, and delegate selection to curb caucus abuses. Other items include funding for attorney general agents, school superintendent reporting, a divorce bill linked to insanity, salary increases, road and tax measures, and a memorial building proposal for the supreme court and state agencies.
Primary suffrage for women appears in bills in both houses. Senator Ilotdoegel of Calhoun County and Weaver of Polk propose primaries and caucuses for women, while allowing eligibility limits. The bills keep existing eligibility for office, and do not grant new terms.
