Miss Joan Hauschen Shirley Mquown Bride of Eldon Fain
A pretty wedding occurred Sunday February 14 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in Rodman. Miss Joan Hauschen of Emmetsburg wed Leon Firkins’ brother Eldon Fain in a double ring ceremony. Attendants included Camilla Fain and James Bargman. The bride, a 1952 Emmetsburg graduate, now works at Harold's Food. the groom, a Mallard native, attended Mallard schools and served in the military. They will reside in Emmetsburg after a brief honeymoon trip to California.

PRE-LENTEN DANCE AT COUNTRY CLUB AND CLUB MEETINGS
A pre Lenten dance at the Country Club Tuesday night will feature an organist from Swea City. It is a guest night and members may bring friends. Public school hot lunch schedule for February 22 to 26 lists daily served items. Monday features wieners in buns with mustard and sides. Tuesday offers meat loaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. Wednesday serves barbecued beef buns with cheese crackers and creamed peas. Thursday includes tomato juice and baked rhashi vegetable gelatine salad. Friday presents scalloped potatoes and tuna fish salad with pickles and butter. Milk and fruit accompany each day.
Suits Brought by Des Moines Family Settled Out of Court
Four damage suits totaling over 150000 against Harley J. Rouse from a fatal December 31 1952 traffic crash were settled at Jefferson. The suits were dismissed with prejudice and costs assigned to Rouse. Settlement reported around 12 percent of the 313000 asked. The crash occurred on an icy stretch of Highway 36 east of Scranton. Victor L Otto 22, a member of the Huggins family, died in the accident while en route to Fort Jackson South Carolina on leave.

Paving plans outline for Emmetsburg and area roads
County engineer outlines half mile hard surfacing in Emmetsburg starting at North Lawler and First streets with a 20 foot slab, scarified existing surface, and six feet of gravel on each side. Work to be let by the State Highway Commission, likely finished in three days with good weather. Additional paving includes routes south from Ayrshire and north of Ruthven, plus three miles of stabilized base from farm-to-market funds in multiple townships with letting on March 18.

LeMars reports say the superintendent announced tentative plans for an open air commencement on the Emmetsburg High School football field if weather cooperates. The setup would allow all attendees, as the auditorium would only hold immediate family. An alternate plan exists to move the ceremony indoors if rain occurs.
