Miss Flannegan, a Jocal service operator, suffered shock after her car skidded on a heavy frost east of Cylinder. Treated and released from the local hospital after x rays, the vehicle, owned by Miss Flannegan Hance, sustained about $800 damage. Sheriff Dick Milter reported the icy road contributed to the accident. The couple, James A Reding and Miss Flannegan, are slated to wed February 28.
Earnest Lodge No. 399 A F and A M will host Past Masters Night at the lodge hall on Wednesday evening February 13 with a large turnout expected. Secretary Byron G Mead says dinner is by the Eastern Star followed by Mason degree work performed by past masters including County School Supt John E Smith and Eher Lowman of Curlew who will receive their past master pins. The event marks a return to form after the 1855 fire delayed gatherings and redecorated lodge rooms provide suitable quarters.
Robert E. Lowry director of bands at Morningside College will lead the All County and Massed bands at the Palo Alto county high school festival in Emmetsburg High School auditorium on Wednesday February 15. rehearsals begin February 23 at 9:30 p m and continue after dinner at 1 30 p m in the Emmetsburg auditorium. The All County band draws 87 instrumental students from eight county high schools.
Banks in Alto County observe Lincoln's Birthday with states of closures. Emmetsburg branches Mellard Ayr Palo Alto County State Bank Iowa Trust & Savings Ruvhgen Graettinger Cylinder and Town West Bend close. Bank personnel attend meetings and conferences in Des Moines Mason City and Sioux City.
Dr Knezevich released a five year district report noting the need for new classrooms by 1958 59 and additional high school facilities by 1962 63. He warned that the old West Grade Building will be phased out as capacity strains continue and criticized substandard spaces including locker rooms art room and laundry facilities.

Jerry Hickey year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Hickey drank kerosene at home Wednesday and was rushed to the local hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be improving satisfactorily.
Enwnetshburg merchants voted 50 to 28 for Friday night business hours at a Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Country Club last night. It was decided stores will open Fridays to 2 p.m. until April 1 when the hours will be 9 30 p.m.
Richard Dreher, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Donz, was rushed by special ambulance from St Joseph's Hospital Sioux City after a polio-related lung condition. Dr. John R. Hyde ordered immediate transfer to Palo Alto hospital for treatment. The patient, reportedly in critical condition, was escorted by a patrol unit during the move. Continued on.
Richard A. Martin of Sigourney and Mrs J J Martin join the Martin Funeral home network. The families share a last name but are not related. Richard Martin, a local teacher, served as a first lieutenant in WWII and studied mortuary science.
