Dr. D. H. Seacat a World War II medical corps major takes over Dr FP Nelson’s practice while Nelson travels west for a month. Seacat and his wife live in Nelson’s home. Seacat is a native of Alexandria South Dakota and trained at the University of Oregon. He served a year at a Tacoma Washington hospital and spent two and a half years in the army. Nelson and wife travel with Mr and Mrs Ray Wright through Texas and San Diego before returning to Emmetsburg.
City crews tackle the largest snow clearance in years with vast drifts hauled away. Main streets like Towne and Broadway now clear. residential districts to be serviced rapidly. Councilman Hummes and Mr. Piper lead the effort, cost estimated at 1.20 to 1.50 thousand dollars for labor and equipment.
Curt Randa, foreman of the State Highway Commission maintenance crew, said all state and federal highways in Palo Alto County are open and mostly in good traveling condition. Some spots narrowed by snow are expected to widen with a state rotary plow this weekend. Also, trains near Emmetsburg are returning to schedule after recent snow.

Pocahontas County Rural Electric Cooperative celebrates ten years serving 2512 farm families in Palo Alto and Pocahhantas counties. The annual meeting is set for Friday February 7 in Pocahantas with manager George Stockdale announcing the event. Music begins at 12 30 p m with the meeting to follow.
Emmetsburg Junior College cagers defeated Eagle Grove JC 45 to 43 at Eagle Grove Wednesday night. The Jayhawks led 23 14 at halftime and held off late Eagle threats. Fat Hand scored 14 and Pat Nolan contributed shared top scoring duties as the game closed.
Brmetzburg banks will close Wednesday February 32 in observance of Lincoln's birthday and will also close for Washington's birthday Saturday. The notice was announced today.

A naval Corsair that forced landed near Schroeder point was removed from Five Island Lake by an eleven man crew from Minneapolis. They used a truck with a winch and staged cables across the ice to haul the plane onto the trailer and then onto the truck for transport to Minneapolis. Lieut. Smith, guest at the T. L. Martin home, returned to Minneapolis with the crew.
Spencer Tigers defeated E Hawks 64 to 38 at Spencer after a strong first half surge. Allan Frost led E Hawks with 24 points while DeKoster scored 22 for Spencer. Dick Ryan added 11 for Emmetsburg as the Tigers held a 35 to 16 lead.
Sacred Heart cage team of Yo calwntas defeated Finmers burg Catholic High 43 10 in the semifinal. The Irish were timed back after beating St Mathews of Chore and St Calumbkille's of Varina in earlier rounds.
Admitted to Emmetshire hospital this past week for medical treatment was Mrs B C Beyard from Jzmmetsburg on February 4.
The Palo Alto county boys basketball tournament final round, postponed Monday night due to weather, will now be played Saturday. Jim McFadgen, high school administrator, set the date after discussions with coaches and officials. Scheduled matches include Olacion Amer versus Rodman at 2 pm and Mallard versus Huthven for the championship at 3 15 pm.
Mr and Mrs Harold Wohl attended funeral services in Marshalltown for Ivan Scott aged 44, brother of Mrs Wohl, who died of a heart attack induced by last week's storm. Scott, unmarried, ran a tent and awning business in Mayshailtown.
County Auditor Mart Thompson today announced a convention of Palo Alto county school board presidents will meet at the courthouse on February 20 to elect a new county superintendent of schools. Roy Johnston resigned early this year and Edna Oliver has been acting superintendent. Johnston recently joined the Veterans Administration in Des Moines. About twenty four district representatives will vote, following guidance from County Attorney Joseph Hand on proper filling of the vacancy.
Russell Johnson and Ronald Chapman were chosen for the Emmetsburg Co Op Creamery board at the annual meeting in the Iowa theatre. Other directors include Charles J. Stillman Andrew Vandervelde and Gerald Hand. President SuToan presided as about 100 members attended. Secretary Vandervelde read past minutes and Les Rhodes outlined field work across Palo Alto county creameries.
In Mallard a special election approved a $7,000 bond issue to improve the town water works system. Forty-seven votes were cast with 43 in favor and four opposed.
The State Tax Commission announced a representative will be at the courthouse in Emmetsburg on February 19 and March 26 to assist taxpayers with income tax return filing. The aide will not help with farm or business schedules due to limited time.
Palo Alto county March of Dimes drive gains over one thousand dollars in gifts. Campaign director Ratdall Hoff man cited strong response from theater collections and local groups. Officials listed include J. A. Skewis chair man and Drs HL Brereton J W Woodbridge.
John Martin Farrell of Whittemore pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated before Judge Jerry Stillman. He was fined $300 plus costs, with $100 suspended for good behavior and parole. Farrell's license was suspended sixty days after a highway patrolman arrested him last month at the Sales Barn.
