Local church listings detail holiday services across Emmetsburg and area including Assumption Catholic Saint Thomas Catholic Trinity Episcopal First Baptist Open Bible First Methodist St John Lutheran and St Paul Lutheran programs. Masses carols vigils and Christmas week schedules are noted with times and participating pastors.
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at First Congregational United Church of Christ led by Minister John M. Schaeller with scripture and song. Sunday December 26 church school at 9:00 and worship at 10:00 with junior and senior choirs evening. Lutheran study fellowship at St Pauls Church parish house with Rev Erbing Hansen leading talk on Renewed Through Holy Communion. Evening worship to follow.
The Fellowship extends an invitation to Lutheran students returning from their respective colleges for the Christmas holidays. The notice gathers students to join the fellowship during the festive season and encourages participation.
Rev. N F MacLachlan leads Christmas Eve service at 7 30 pm with a Sunday School program. Divine Worship on Christmas Day at 8 30 am followed by Sunday School and Bible Classes at 9 20 am.
Mrs. Chester Bahr and her father visiting Rochester Minnesota from Emmetsburg area relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Andre and daughters to spend Christmas with Vic and Mrs. Clyde Richardson. Shirley Mulroney to visit her mother in the area. she works as a dietician in Waterloo. Emmet sburg itinerant employment service to Spencer will end January 1 1966. Palo Alto County residents may apply in Spencer 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Unemployment claims may be filed at Estherville City Hall on second or fourth Tuesday at 9 to 10:30 am in January February and March.
A Highway Patrol radar speed check four miles west of Emmetsburg led to four arrests by Patrolman R B Day of Estherville and R E Vogel of Spencer. In court Justice RM Hand imposed fines totaling 54 dollars with Austinette Namtvedt Spirit Lake fined 16, Dale Prescott Milford 14, a Milford man 10, and Lowell Manns Citrus California 14.
Judge G W Stillman of Alabama set aside the divorce of Irene Luella Mueller from Lester F Mueller. The mid November decree by Judge Fred M Hudson of Pocahontas was void for lack of grounds and because Judge Joseph P Hand had ordered dismissal prior to Hudson’s decision.
Adolph Spies of Graettinger was invited to join a Midwest business delegation on a Goodwill Study Tour to South America visiting Brazil Uruguay Argentina Chile and Peru. They will learn about history folklore development and inspect Alliance for Progress projects and Peace Corps efforts. The group sails from Miami February 26 and returns March 19.
The new Explorer Scout Troop sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7 p.m. Monday Dec 27 at the Kermore Hotel. Open to all boys 15 to 18. Teddy Ellis elected president for the first year at the Dec 13 chartering meeting. Robert Garrison, county hospital administrator, is advisor.

Names include Edward Schmidt Whittemore A Shaw West Bend Susie Schnetzer Emmetsburg John Tobin Emmetsburg Elmer Robinson Mallard Donald Kauffman Emmetsburg and more. Dismissals list several residents from Ayrshire Emmetsburg Havelock Ruthven Mallard and nearby towns with dates December 21 and 22.
Gehien edged out Irish Metsburg Catholic 58 to 56 in a seesaw LeMars matchup. Jim Bisenius led Irish with 20 points while Jim Harris scored 17 for Gehien in a close oral battle.
The Emmetsburg Clerk of Court Alma Burns issued a marriage license last week to Ronald Arthur Brownlee 24 and Jane Eileen McMillin 20 both of Emmetsburg with Dec 17 noted.
Lloyd Jensvold of Jensvold Motor Co was named Seatbelt Safety Chairman for Jensvold County by Norman Dunlap of Ames, head of the State association. The move expands a statewide drive urging belt use as Iowa law requires belts in 1966 model cars and data show many deaths could be prevented with belts.
Dunlap announced a star belt safety push citing 458 cars and four of every five deaths could be saved with belts. He urged car salesmen to demonstrate two belts per car and to teach owners the belts' lifesaving value. The ADA plans county chairmen to back the drive after a Cedar Rapids meeting in December.
West Bend defeated Cylinder 65 to 58 at West Bend Tuesday night. John Cody scored 23 for Cylinder while Wayne Han Selman added 26 and Bruce Bal gman 25 for West Bend. Cylinder girls beat West Bend 44 to 28.
