London August 14 The visit of the French fleet was commemorated in a luncheon in the house of commons given by members of both houses to Vice Admiral Caillard and about 130 officers. Around 500 sat to dine as galleries held 400 guests. The entente cordiale was celebrated amid exchanges of visits between the fleets at Brest and Portsmouth. Premier Balfour and cabinet leaders attended, as the Marseillaise rang through the banqueting hall for the first time in that chamber.

Mrs Dubois wife of Senator Fred T Dubois of Idaho traveling with Taft party was thrown from a carriage in Manila Aug 14. She was taken to a hospital by ambulance and unconscious for three hours. Injuries not dangerous but serious bruising may keep her from continuing the southern trip with Taft and Roosevelt.
Philadelphia August 14 William Henry Myers a chauffeur was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for running down and killing five year old Eldon Sarver. The jury deliberated all night and Myers was sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment for the fatal incident.
Mrs A M Burt of Jamestown North Dakota was trapped for two hours in an ice tomb after slipping through a weakened crevasse on Sperry glacier north of Lake McDonald Montana. She was part of an eight member party from the Montana biological station at Big Fork crossing the glacier and was rescued by rope work after a strenuous effort.
