Wreck in Connecticut Kills Four in Washout Train Crash

A New Haven Railroad passenger train from Shellburn Falls Mass struck a washout two miles north of Hartford. Four people died, seven were injured, including engineer Steven Searles and baggagemaster Edward Barrows. Injured passengers were taken to Hartford Hospital. the wreck halted the train about 6:55 p.m. The train consisted of engine baggage and mail cars, a combination car, a passenger car, and a rear dining car.

American Engineer Edward Turner Dies in Mexican Jail

Information from the state department reports Edward Turner, a Kansas native and American engineer, died after about ten months in a jail at Orizaba Mexico on a charge tied to a train wreck on the Inter Ocean Railroad. Wreck in Missouri Kills Two and Hurts Many

A blizzard on February 27 caused a Missouri Pacific mainline collision near Independence Missouri. Explosion in Iowa farm house kills two children near Dunkerton

A keg of gunpowder stored in a granary dry room exploded at Gagravus Horn’s farm four miles east of Dunkerton on February 28. The blast wrecked the dwelling, blew out windows and roof, and fatally burned the Horn children aged four and five while the parents, at the barn, saved themselves from the disaster.

Poisoned by Soup Ends Half a Dozen Wyeth Family

The Wyeth family of Mr and Mrs Wyeth five miles southwest of Ludson were poisoned by soup made from vegetables and oysters that had rested in the cellar until partly decomposed. The nine members including three grown sons and three small children were unconscious when physicians arrived several hours later but were saved through urgent care.
