Unseasonably Cool Week in Des Moines and Civil Service Exams
Des Moines reports a cool week with frost on the 27th and 28th, light to three inch rainfall, and varied soil moisture aiding corn and small grain. Pastures, potatoes, and apples show mixed results while fruit overall lags. The U S Civil Service Commission will hold exams in Sept and Oct to fill ~126,423 classified positions nationwide, with 7,072 appointments since July 1, 1901 and projected 11,000 next year.
