Fred Rochelle, a Black man about 15, was accused of fatally harming Mrs. Reng Taggart in Barrow, Fla. A mob gathered to witness his execution, who was chained to a stake near Place Creek, and a blaze consumed him within minutes.
Boosteville Missouri reports the Laurine, a four teen-ton freight boat on the Missouri River between Booneville and Rocheport, exploded after gasoline ignited on board. The blast destroyed the vessel and caused extensive property damage. Two laborers are believed dead. Detonating caps, dynamite, powder and fuse stored aboard intensified the explosion. The captain and another crewmember escaped prior to the blast.

In Warseka Illinois three people died in a farmhouse fire during the early hours. Victims named include Mrs Mary Hersuberger 70 and Mrs Mattie Magee area 22 and Calvin Magee age 5. Magee woke to flames and saved his wife and infant before the kitchen collapsed. The mother returned for another child but perished with her mother and the child.
Ger. Schoeman, a Boer leader who commanded a commando at Colesburg and later surrendered to Pretoria, was killed when a wheel kept as a curiosity exploded in his house. His wife and two others were badly injured. Schoeman had been captured twice by Boers and released by the British.
