He met the woman at the depot and was drugged then robbed of over 800 dollars before being left near the union depot. He borrowed money from a relative to return home.
Adbert Meyers, a young man from four miles northwest of Holly Springs, was badly hurt when a shotgun shell exploded while he tried to clear a jam. The blast tore two fingers from his right hand and filled his face with powder. doctors hope to save both eyes.
A rear end collision occurred at 2 50 Sunday morning on the Central, one mile west of Tara. Conductor Mellville of Cherokee was killed and brakeman Meeligman injured. John H Gear of Iowa died in Washington D C on Saturday from Brights disease. Born April 7 1825 in Ithaca New York he moved with his family to Minnesota then settled in Burlington Iowa where he became a successful merchant and political figure. A Lincoln supporter he served as Burlington mayor state legislator speaker of the Iowa House governor and held seats in both the House and Senate including the Fifty-third and Fifty-second Congresses and the U S Senate term beginning March 4 1891. His death marks the loss of a longtime public servant who rose from frontier trader to national legislator.
