In other news, merchants' excursions extend Western routes to include Colorado and Utah with a fare of one and a third for round trip. meetings set for February 23 to March 2 and March 20 to April 6.
The Soo Pacific sets new passenger and freight rates effective February 23 from Minneapolis and St Paul to Puget Sound points at 15 for first class 10 for second class and to Portland at a higher rate. Norway forms new cabinet headed by Ex Premier Steen submits names to King Oscar. Seventy four bodies recovered from Boschum colliery blast with 30 still trapped. The January 1898 statement from the bureau of statistics reports domestic exports at 106,761,524 and foreign exports at 1,727,981, totaling 108,489,455. Imports free of duty 22,113,499 and dutiable 28,689,410, total imports 50,802,009. The excess of exports over imports is 57,686,546, up from 42,597,865 last January, improving the trade balance by about 15,000,000.

A Kaukauna dispatch reports the sale of the Quinnesec Falls water power and paper mills with 1600 acres to the Kimberley Clark Company. The deal, one of the west’s largest paper mill property transactions, is expected to close this week with details settled Thursday.

Miss Frances E. Willard leader of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union died shortly after midnight in New York City at the Hotel Empire. At her bedside were her niece Mrs W W Baldwin, Mrs L M M Stevens W C T U vice president, Miss Anna M Gordon secretary, and Dr Alfred K Will. She had been ill about three weeks and funeral services will be held in New York and later in Evanston Illinois where her body will be taken.
At Missouri University on a Wednesday meet a mother Mrs Anna Emerson burst into the dissecting room and identified the body on the table as her 17 year old daughter Hattie causing a dramatic, tragic scene in front of shocked students.

A Jamaican interception halts a filibustering expedition to Cuba with arms seized. The schooner Cora M last visited Wilmington North Carolina and is implicated. Pals of Hogan the Mail Robber were arrested in Chicago for alleged ties to Timothy Hogan and robberies of malik boxes in Columbus Ohio.
A private telegram from Nanaimo British Columbia reports the steamer Queen arrived from Skaguay Alaska with confirmation of the loss of the ship Slaxy Ne and the fate of Clara Nevada remains unresolved.
