Thanksgiving Day disaster at Poetic Glass Works in San Francisco killed thirteen and injured about eighty two to one hundred as a crowd gathered to watch the Stanford vs Cal football game. Victims fell onto hot furnaces and vats of liquid glass with others rescuing the injured from danger.
The Cleveland and Pittsburg night express left Pittsburgh at midnight and derailed half a mile west of Beaver Virginia. The locomotive mail and baggage cars plunged into the Ohio River. Forty-one passengers escaped with minor bruises while express messenger M S Casey drowned in his car. Four trainmen were injured.
In Chicago Mrs F A Hudson formerly Miss Belie Walker of Minneapolis was murdered by her husband who then attempted suicide. The crime occurred in their hotel rooms after a jealous rage. Hudson wounded then crushed the woman's skull with a hammer and fired twice at himself. both suicide attempts failed. He was restrained by hotel staff and is recovering in hospital. Mrs Hudson had moved from Minneapolis about three years ago.
A Manila cable reports the sinking of the auxiliary cruiser Yosemite in a typhoon near Guam. Five crew members lost. In New York a melee between union and nonunion workers at Southwestern Telegraph and Telephone Co. leaves police officer Win. Lacy dead and several wounded. A German admiral near death from fumes after stove incident. A football death in Cusco and a Danish fire destroying the Moenstels marine factory with a loss of 1,002,000 kroner.
United States Senator Cushman Kellogg Davis, chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, died at his Minnesota home on November 27 after five months of illness. His death followed a kidney ailment and a progressive decline, with delirium in his final days reflecting his long service and concern for national policy.
A driftwood bonfire on the Ohio River at Leaserville West Virginia exploded when a boy tossed a nitroglycerine can into the flames. Three youths were killed and thirteen wounded, with two possibly dying. The dead are Berman Findlay Willie Davis and Robert Finley all aged 18. New York police say a letter illegibly signed outlines an anarchistic plot against President McKinley. It names a suspected teacher and references a fugitive with prior prison terms, plus an anonymous tip about a Paris prefect and an anarchist who harmed a Scranton police agent. The writer is believed located and under investigation.
