McKinley Roosevelt Ticket Backed by Republicans

The Ellsworth American reports the Philadelphia convention nominated William McKinley of Ohio for president and Theodore Roosevelt of New York for vice president by acclamation. It praises McKinley’s leadership, cites Roosevelt’s popular favor, and urges Republicans and independents to unite. The paper also analyzes China’s crisis, noting allied powers’ cooperation and potential partition risks. It criticizes Democrat stances on nails, fence wire, and ship registry, cites South’s political shift, and notes Oregon’s decisive victory for a straight‑out pro‑expansion platform.
