The Mace Heist and the Baboon Sleuth in Shrewsbury

In Shrewsbury, Mr John Stott, a sharp chief constable, misreads two burglaries as staged by itinerant acrobats. After a second break in and a mayoral mace theft, Mrs Stott accompanies him to Shaw’s menagerie. A ribbed-face baboon is found to have stolen rings and a plated inkstand, later revealed as the culprit, with the baboon’s tailing master Mr Shaw. The case ends with Stott hailed for sagacity while Mrs Stott’s insight earns praise.
