Pearson of Maine Temperance Work and Sheriff Ends
Longtime Maine reformer and Cumberland County Sheriff Pearson died at Poland Spring on August 6 after a period of illness. He served in the 10th Massachusetts during the Civil War, led temperance efforts in Maine, helped establish a gospel mission in Portland, held office as sheriff from 1900, and was a noted orator. He left a widow and one daughter, Evangeline.
