County commissioners and probate notices lead a dense page of community notices. Social events, church talks, lodge activities, plant sales and schoolhouse changes fill the docket alongside updates on residents’ health, travel, and employment.
The Nokomis Rebekah lodge staged the lively Breezy Point drama last Friday. Debby Dexter led as Breezy Point with a large cast including Eleanor Fecei, Ashrael Grant, Helen Bonsey, Julia Hillington, Maud Raymond, and Laura McCarthy. The performance drew a full house, Monaghan's orchestra provided music, a fine supper followed, and net proceeds reached about $75.
Dan Eppes of Bulnworth ends nearly five decades on Main Street in the grocery trade. Beginning August 27, 1855, he started in the Ellsworth House basement and later moved through several buildings, finally occupying his current Coombs block location. At sixty nine, he retires from active business though remains vigorous and widely known among friends and neighbors.
C L Morang has purchased the Main street store owned by Daniel H Eppes to expand his business. The interior will be remodeled into a men and boys clothing department with a connected cash system and Indies toilet rooms on the second floor. Eppes will vacate after selling his stock, remodeling to begin immediately, with a goal to open the enlarged quarters within a month.
A Monday night break in at T. F. O'Brien’s small store at Washington Junction netted about $15 in cigars tobacco and pantry items plus $1 in cash. Police suspect two tramps seen around Cherryfield earlier. They reportedly fled toward Franklin after stealing from the depot and returning to their private car. the car remains missing.
Rumors of selling three lower Union River dams and building a large stone dam near the reduction works have become fact. Dams one through three, owned by Boston Reduction Co., Ellsworth Lumber Co., and J A Peters Jr et al, are sold to Stanley Electric Manufacturing Co and partners. Purchase aims to supply power for a regional railway and support a broad water power development accessible to rail, ocean transport, and various users within miles of the central station.
Business notices announce A. K. Moore's millinery opening today and tomorrow at the newly filled store located at the corner of Main and Franklin streets.
