Washington Oct 22 The draft qualifications into which men awaiting the draft will be divided have been announced. Classes include single men with dependents and various married categories based on support and employment status. Class five covers officers of water or United States services, miners, and aliens unfit for labor.
At Fifth Street P Crossing a collision occurred between a freight train and John Scott's G M C auto truck. Scott and his son Tony escaped injury but the truck suffered severe damage while Tony and witnesses disputed whether the crossing bell was ringing as the engine approached.
Tomorrow evening at 7 30 Elko plans a Liberty Loan bonfire under cadet supervision with Elko County High School Cadets leading. The Elko Band will play and a few brief speeches are planned as locals urge turnout to show support and boost morale.
In Shafter last Saturday a Western Pacific train ran off track after engine moved. J Wells Brown and wife Mrs Brown were arrested near Elko. Brown allegedly started the runaway. Mrs Brown threatened with firearms and later rifles. Sheriff Harris pressed resisting an officer charges as investigation continues.
