Paris reports renewed French assault near Souchez and Vimy Heights as forces push toward Lafolle Heights. Official statement notes enemy bombardment east of Souchez while French trenches advance toward strategic objectives in Artois.
A Mexican track worker named Pandon Robler was robbed during a party night, struck unconscious, and buried in a ground hole for about 120 hours. He crawled free, walked to the Western Pacific depot, and recovered, while fellow workers fled. A reporter notes the odd tale amid heavy rains and language barriers.
Secretary of State Lansing and German Ambassador Von Berstorff talked for ten minutes in New York. The ambassador, when asked for comments, said there was nothing to say. It is believed Berstorff provided the documents Lansing sought.

The Ferrin home was quarantined and physicians plan swift control. Also noted is the critical illness of George Green of Southern Nevada at Nine Mile House near Aurora. his son George Green Jr an attorney in Reno is with him.
The Tonopah deposits sparked a revival in Nevada mining after 1900 as precious metals were found in Tertiary volcanic rock. The Goldfield discovery of 1902 followed from Tonopah development, contributing to a total regional value exceeding 980 million dollars.
