Death of Elko County Pioneer Jacob Hofford in Austin Texas
The Star reports the death of Jacob Hofford at his Austin home. An early Nevada pioneer, he came to Star City in 1862, found water via a greasewood root at Jacob's Well, and helped blaze Paradise Valley settlements. He later built a mill on Martin Creek, ran mail service, and named Clover Valley. Hofford moved to Ebbo and finally Austin, Texas, thirty years ago, where he worked in building.
