New London reports another submarine of the same type as the Deutschland is expected to arrive soon. Local agents are assembling a cargo about the same size as that carried by the Deutschland. No word has been heard from the Deutschland since it left yesterday afternoon.

Hawaii Sought as Name for New Warship

Former Queen Liliuokalani has formally asked Secretary Daniels to name a new battle cruiser Hawaii. The naval secretary said the ships will likely carry names from early frigates, but Hawaii could be honored on another vessel type. The ship in question was built for the New York London trade and was commanded by Britain at the war’s start.

Missouri Judge Rules on 8 Hour Adamson Bill

Federal Judge W B Hook of the district court ruled the Adamson eight hour law unconstitutional. The decision came on a government motion to dismiss an injunction suit by receivers of the Missouri Oklahoma Gulf Railroad against the government and railroad brotherhoods. The ruling favors the administration and may yield an immediate Supreme Court hearing before year end. If sustained, Wilson may seek a new bill to correct the law.

Palm Saloon Sells to New Manager in Elko County

Frank Middleton sold the Palm Saloon after about a year and handed it to Jack Grieser who has managed it. Middleton will stay locally but focus on mining interests at Jarbluge. The Palm saloon is praised as a clean, strong business investment in Elko County.

Bandits Loot Illinois Bank in Roberts Dynamite Vandalism

Four auto bandits raided the Ex Change bank at Roberts in Gibson City territory, blowing the safe with nine dynamite charges. A townwide alarm triggered a pistol battle in which one citizen was wounded, and the bandits escaped with about $5000.

Choosing Site for the High School

The High School Board considers site options for a county high school. The Independent favors the old university grounds now housing the county hospital. It notes eight to ten acres on elevated ground near population centers and argues the hospital could be relocated if needed. Alternative locations include a hill northwest town, Court street east end, or Hot Springs south of Elko.
