280000 Men Called In June

Washington May 31 Official announcement has been made that 280000 men will be called to the colors in June. They will report June 24 but the corps to which they are assigned is not yet determined as the apportionments list is being withheld.

Additional Nevada films to be taken and shown

Ayres, filming historical Nevada scenes for national theatres, departs to secure extra footage at Lovelock Winnemucca Elko and Ely. The Nevada films, including Comstock mining half a mile underground, will screen at Hinito theatre for two days June 15 and 16 with matinee and night shows. They will be distributed to twelve picture houses statewide and nationwide, highlighting Nevada’s mining and pioneering history.

Herbert C. Sproule son of Mrs H Sproule and Fern Woodgate daughter of Mrs Alice Woodgate were wed yesterday in Reno. Sproule works at Union Iron Works in San Francisco while Woodgate formerly worked as bookkeeper for Elko Lumber. He long served as deputy county clerk under Voight and Hunter. Woodgate, Colorado native, moved to Elko four years ago with her family. The couple, long acquainted, receive community wishes for a long happy life together.

Colorado capitalists to exploit shale oil

A group of Colorado capitalists including Senator Penrose Berner Hopkins and Charles M. MacNeil plan to develop oil shale deposits in Utah and Colorado using the Scott process. They will build a unit in Yark after eighteen months of lab work in Detroit, with Eugene A. Sunderland as managing director.
