A Forward cablegram from Petrograd reports an attempt on War Minister Kerensky that morning failed to injure him. All participants are said to be arrested and rumors suggest the Romonoff faction may be behind the plot.
A San Francisco Ad club tourist party, thirty five strong in fourteen autos, arrived on schedule and depart after lunch for an eastern trip. Headed by J A Houlihan, the group includes eight women and numerous notable figures in advertising, racing, and journalism.
A group led by Mrs. Gottel and J. Weber travels in a Hayweight six while others in Franklin and Pierce Arrow vehicles join the party. The caravan, carrying 4000 pounds of emergency supplies and distillate fuel, aims to reach St. Louis by June 3 after leaving Elko and stopping at Montello Ogden and Salt Lake City before continuing through Laramie to Denver. John Henderson and R. W. Hesson joined a Carlin departure to guide the convoy to Elko, with a final reception canceled to avoid tiring the travelers.
Superintendent W H Weslar announces Goldfield grade schools will not reopen until September due to a measles epidemic. The high school remains open until summer vacation and graduation is set for Friday evening June 8.

A merchant submarine of about 750 to 800 tons, fast submerged, non sinking, could be mass produced within months. A massive blaze in Atlanta destroyed three thousand homes across seventy five blocks, the worst since the Civil War, with property losses around 3.5 million and ten to fifteen thousand people left homeless. Authorities prepared to feed up to five thousand as the fire ended after dynamiting several homes on Ponce de Leon avenue. In Washington, debate on the war tax bill nears conclusion with a possible vote tonight amid ongoing amendments.

Madison Wis May 22 Governor Phillip vetoed a bill for a statewide referendum on the liquor question. The action blocks a proposed vote that would decide whether Wisconsin residents face a liquor question referendum.
Portland Maine May 22 official announcement says naval authorities investigate a report of a submarine off the coast. A periscope was sighted late yesterday and the submarine was seen running a wash off Machias.
