Washington reports pushing alarming dispatch from Teheran about Turkish forces sacking an American hospital in Tabriz and seizing the American-British consulate. The attack, defying the Spanish flag and protesting Spanish officials, could be treated as an act of war.
In San Francisco on June 19 an Allied uniform mix up occurred at a war hotel. Four officers from American Belgian Italian and British forces received mixed coats trousers and knickerbockers destined for others. After a conference they noted the joke, calling themselves all allies.
Eugene June 19 Many students of the University of Oregon will spend their vacations working in the Grant Smith Yorler shipyard on the lower Willamette River. C. W. Ausman industrial manager signs up students for the plant. Varsity men will be in strike gangs and will be put to work, promising to liven the plant considerably.
A fragment notes daily hut construction beginning August 4 1914 in France for allied soldiers. The terse line implies ongoing civilian or military shelter efforts ongoing throughout the war.

Mobile Alabama June 1 officers on a Cuba to Gulfport steamer report sighting a large whale sixty five miles off Sandy Light at the mouth of Mobile Bay. The sleeping whale resembled a submarine with a large fin like a periscope and disappeared after the vessel bumped it.
Paris dispatch reports a fresh German drive launched after a heavy bombardment along the Rheims front between Virgny and La Pompelle. French defenders repulse the attack with heavy German losses. American casualties total 144 on the day, with 30 killed in action in Marine lists and 87 severely wounded.
William McQuillan, a twenty year boarder, buys the Tualatin hotel in Hillsboro to keep living there after owners go out of business. He pays 10000 to secure ownership and continue enjoying the meals.
Federal authorities unearthed twenty one Mauser rifles with bayonets in a coal miner’s garret at Beckemeyer. The man is described as strongly pro German and an investigation is under way. Also notes a local social event at Mayer with a stag supper for Reno boys and a dancing party. Newsman Neal Chapin and wife Dolly Russell were visiting.
Treasury announces tentative plans for the fourth Liberty loan totaling about six billion dollars. Bonds will carry four and a quarter percent interest and denominations will match those of the third loan. The campaign is set to open in October.

A June 18 flood from Upper Rochester swept the canyon, nearly washing out the Nevada Short Line Railroad roadbed between here and Oreana. Buildings were wrecked, the Jones saloon damaged, bridges inspected, and a seven year old boy injured by rushing water.
The first draft of farmerettes has arrived near Newport at Bethsham in the Woods. A committee led by Mist Edith Welfore will manage housing and duties. They are to work on the farm and will be paid $20 a day.
San Diego observed John Rylan in court after facing a bootlegging charge. A bottle of whiskey was produced as evidence and the defendant drank it in court, prompting a remark from a police sergeant. The judge ordered no more refreshments for the next month.

Scranton, Pa. June 19 Soldiers passing through Scranton will no longer be kissed by local girls. Mayor Connell has stopped the practice after numerous complaints including one from the Red Cross. Red Cross workers said kissing interfered with feeding the soldiers at the station.
City enumerators list every child under six as part of a summer effort for healthier babies. Officials estimate over 50,000 youngsters will be watched to cut deaths, valuing each life at 1500 dollars and hoping to save 1,240,500 dollars worth of lives.
Memphis Tenn June 10 Though river traffic relief for railroad congestion was discussed seriously months ago little progress is reported. Government aid has not arrived, and a rivermen conference with Director-General McAdoo was called off due to his illness.
In Asiancy, Ga on June 19 growers report the largest Irish potato crop yet and a glut in the market. Many farmers may not harvest as prices remain extremely low and buyers are scarce in a region already allotted to early sales.
Miss Lorna G. Donaldson and George H. Anderson, Stanford graduates, will marry Saturday at First Presbyterian church Palo Alto. A reception follows at 737 Webster Street. Donaldson, violin teacher in Santa Clara County, holds Stanford history and College of the Pacific music degrees. Anderson, military correspondent for the San Francisco Call, earned an MA in history and belongs to Phi Beta Kappa. The couple met at Stanford three years ago and will honeymoon in the Santa Cruz mountains.
