German Instructor Shoots Banker F. Holt Targets Morgan Home

Special to The Independent reports F Holt an instructor at Cornell University shot banker John Pierpont Morgan twice at his Glencove Long Island country home. Holt restrained the butler then fired injuring Morgan in the groin and leg. Morgan grappled with Holt saving his life before police took Holt, who claims Morgan aided the Allies with war munitions and started the European war.

Wells for irrigation experiment advances in Humboldt valley

A representative of the Independent travels with an auto party to the Harry Van Dreillen desert claim for a dry farming irrigation test. The group notes a four inch pump delivering water to a forty acre plot, with potential big gains as lands valued at five dollars an acre may rise to forty or fifty.

Bryan Entertained in Reno This Morning

Reno Gazette reports Sam Pickett chairing preparations for an informal reception for William J. Bryan as he passes through Reno on train No 5 en route to Tahoe Tavern and beyond. Bryan to speak briefly. officials and party members may accompany him to Lake Tahoe or Truckee. Justice McCarran helped arrange plans and may invite Bryan to Lake Tahoe by car via Carson City.

Walter Johnson sees newborn son in Washington visit

Grandfather Roberts reports Walter Johnson the premier pitcher of the American League hurried home from New York to see a baby boy born during the night. Mrs. Johnson is a daughter of Congressman R. Judge Goodwin to Speak at Reno Luncheon

Judge C. C. Goodwin of Salt Lake City arrives in Reno for a noon luncheon at the Riverside hotel hosted by the Commercial Club.
