In July Delaware county Indiana farmers pay as high as five dollars a day for hay harvest labor due to labor shortages. They rejected voluntary services offered by business men to assist with the work.

About twelve carloads will be sent, with Seattle to supply half of the border tion effort for the northwest. Moss must be gathered in swamps along the north bank of the Columbia River near the mouth, dried thoroughly, and prepared for dressings.
Brokane Washington July 1 Edward Hnayn of this city has been recommended to receive the Distinguished Service Medal of the British Army. A machine gunner in the Royal British Marines at Cambrai last winter he helped defend against a German drive. He recently trained there suffering from shell shock. While crossing the Atlantic homeward the ship was torpedoed and he spent three and a half days in an open boat before rescue.
Paris July 2 The French and British forces pressed a continued grinding pressure along the Franco Belgian line. French troops struck at two points winning ground prisoners and guns. British lines improved but the front grew tense with intensifying German artillery as both sides prepare for renewed large scale fighting.
Associated Press lists today’s army casualty figures: forty nine total, five killed in action, seventeen wounded in action, plus wounded by disease or accident. Twenty six wounded, one missing in action.
