Manuel Paris a steamboat fireman was fatally wounded in a duel with four San Francisco police. Police tried to arrest him for a minor offense when he opened fire. they returned fire and he was killed.
Five thousand workers at the America Brass Works walked off the job this morning in Ansonia Connecticut. The strike prompted fears of unrest and the state militia has been mobilized to restore order.
Ten more men from the Derby groups including unmarried men aged 29 and older will be drafted before March 18. The move expands wartime manpower across Britain as Pac and Int'l News Service report from London.
At the Elko town board meeting bids for a chemical engine were left open until March 5. The clerk was directed to contact the San Francisco Board of Underwriters to send a field expert for a report on conditions and insurance reduction requirements.
