News agency report from Amsterdam on February 19 notes Berlin facing serious food shortages despite censorship. The article says the German public shows rebellion and mounting pressure to reveal peace terms and end the war.
Head Consul I Boak announces that Pacific Jurisdiction Woodmen of the World is not affected by Chicago Cook County court actions over Woodmen of the World assessment rate changes. The Omaha headquartered Sovereign Camp set new rates July, effective Sept 1, but Pacific jurisdiction remains governed by its own laws.
Berlin reports four allied aircraft destroyed by German artillery and German planes attack a British steamer. Austrians and Bulgarians push the Montenegrins as Von Koevels advances 200 miles into the Vardar valley, with 340 soldiers and 150 civilians captured.
In Sacramento a man named George F. Powell, a jeweler at the Forum building, closely resembles President Wilson. Observers note the likeness is strongest in photographs, though the man is not as tall as the president and differs in general build and expression.
Paris dispatches say Bulgarian forces repulsed attacks on retreating allied rear guards and all allies are safe in Greece. Bulgarian troops have not crossed the border. It notes volunteers already in French and British service, with members who served in the Philippines, Cuba, Porto Rico, and Central and South America.
Paris dispatch reports the French government has cabled formal recognition of the Carranza government, marking an official acknowledgement by France of the regime in Mexico. The announcement was transmitted from Paris on December 15.
The Republican National Committee selected Chicago as the site for the 1916 Republican National Convention to be held June 7. Other contenders were San Francisco St Louis and Philadelphia with Chicago leading 31 to 12 7 2 in votes. A later date for the convention was defeated and the committee will decide the city later.
In Seattle on December 15 Anatole Vesilef aged 20 and Miss Vell Veronin also 20 went boat riding on Lake Union. Onshore witnesses heard two shots. West left shot himself and his companion died before help arrived. Both were found in the boat and believed to have acted in a death by own action pact.

Federal officials boarded the Minnesota early this morning and began a thorough investigation into the boilers. By 3 o clock no evidence of a plot had been found and officials now believe boiler tubes failed on their own. Milton Reinhart returned from Berkeley to spend holidays with his parents.
Washington reports a proposed military policy envisioning a regular army of 253 500, a reserve total of 379 000, and a Continental army of 500 000 civilian volunteers to be raised in three years. The plan, approved by President Wilson, stresses modern communications eroding isolation and argues for a combined land and sea defense with expanded forces and extended enlistment.
Three men were arrested in Los Angeles on December 15 after explosives and 100 gallons of gasoline were found at the Belfast Liquor Company. A string of oil soaked rags led to the gasoline tank and 60 hotel guests were endangered. Investigators pursue possible gang links as they search for accomplices. J. J. Harrington and J. F. Parsons traveled via Elko and Tuscarora to assess mining interests. B. Weeks of Wells was in Elko.

California teachers face required payments before pension eligibility. An Attorney General opinion states teachers must contribute $360 to the state treasury, plus $21 annually for 30 years, and $1 monthly for service time, before retirement benefits can be drawn.

Berlin dispatches report the Greek consul general to Turkey plans to return after a year away. The Greek ambassadorship to Turkey, vacant since spring, will be filled by Dr. Kallergis.
Dispatches from Athens report a German submarine sunk in the Black Sea off Varna by Russian forces while a Turkish torpedo boat fell to the British in the Sea of Marmora. In a separate accident, Joseph Tognini cut off his left thumb and parts of two fingers while sawing wood with a power buzz saw.
Premier Skouladis reported entente ministers have lifted the blockade of Greece and will take no further action against commerce. Seven ships bound for Greece were released from Marseilles and may proceed with their cargoes.
Charles Lawrence killed his wife while she slept in Oakland after an estrangement with his Fortuna California ex-wife. The 16 year old daughter witnessed the killing and alerted police by phone. Lawrence surrendered without resistance.
James C. Doughty returned from San Francisco today where on the eleventh he was made a thirty-third degree Mason. He stood the ordeal well and shows no disfigurement. Mergie Wesley Johnson of Wendover, an Elko visitor, was in town today.
