Premier Asquith urged Parliament to authorize boosting Britain’s army from three to four million, with the extra force to be mobilized within a week. A recruitment campaign will fill the additional ranks and, by spring, Britain aims to field four million men, three fourths veterans, aided by new munitions factories.
Eliso Ar rendondo was named Mexico's ambassador to the United States. His credentials will be received, as the Carranza government is recognized and will act with full authority for the Mexican people.

London dispatch reports the Cunard steamer Verla of 3229 tons and the Goulandres were sunk by submarines in the Mediterranean. The crews of both vessels were saved.
Wenzeslaw Hlodicz, a Bohemian living in the United States for decades and claiming citizenship, was sentenced to ten years hard labor by a Prague military court. Returning to Bohemia he joined pro Russian agitators, funded pamphlets urging uprising against Vienna, and promised American support for rebellion. He withheld personal details and sources of his funds.
Stockholm reports Svenska Dagbladet translating Russian interior reports on why peasants believe Germany nearly collapsed. October 14 dispatches claim German advance continues in Prussia, while Paris and Essen fall to Allied forces. Other items claim Austria-Hungary out, Turkey unable to resist, and Germania near defeat with millions captured.
Mrs G Garcia and her charming daughter Mixes Margarita returned from a two week trip to the San Francisco exposition. They attended the closing of the grand fair last Saturday night and praised its grandeur and magnificence. Ed Kendricks, recently ill with rheumatism, is reported much improved.
Elko county commissioners have chosen a White Company chemical and pumping fire engine, first in the United States for the county. Delivery is not before July. The San Anselmo demo showed a 1500 gpm flow, 60 ft hose reach, and 100 psi. The vehicle uses a 65 hp engine, 65 mph. John Formesbeck supervises installation by special mechanics. The Elko Auto Company will operate it with two firemen on hand for demonstrations.
Official announcement says the station of Denirt Kapow on the Nish Salonika railway has been captured by Bulgarians who attacked the British forces at this place. A fight continues between the allies and Bulgarians along the Strumnit front with Bulgarian claims of the best results. They say they defeated a combined French and British army and captured 114 English soldiers and an entire French battalion near Petron.
The jury in the Jerry Huber case returns a not guilty verdict after a third ballot. Huber faced murder charges for killing BY Billings at Mountain City on August 20, 1912. Defense attorneys James Dysart and Joseph McNamara praised for persistence.
In New York a French cruiser stopped two American steamers the Cosmo and the Carolina and removed four German firemen at sea. The incident, viewed as setting a legal precedent, is noted as part of ongoing seamen's rights developments. Edward T. Patrick deputy attorney general of Nevada is in Billbo today on state business to settle a sixty tax issue arising locally.

Washington reports the measure drafted by Rep James Hay nearly finished to expand the regular army to 141844 personnel and add six field artillery regiments, 12 engineer companies, 52 coast artillery companies, and 4 aero squadrons. It envisions a continental army of 400000 to be raised in three annual installments with six year enlistments. The president appoints officers and the Senate confirms those above lieutenant colonel. Federal pay for the militia is included.
County commissioners Isaac Griswold H J Jones J G Gregory and the district attorney met to approve the prior minutes and list numerous salaries for county staff and prisoners plus miscellaneous expenditures from the Fish and Game Contingent and General funds. Notable items include salaries to 15 named officials and various small supplier and service payments across the indigent and county funds.
Negotiations begin for safe conduct of Captains Boy-Ed and Von Papen. Secretary Lansing and the British ambassador held a long conference to determine if a safe passage through the English cordon can be guaranteed.
Salonika is being fortified as a precaution against a Teutonic invasion. Trenches circle the port and guns are mounted on every suitable hill. Allies plan a last stand if their army retreats, and the scale of works suggests a sizable force would be needed to dislodge them.

Berlin December 9 Chancellor Von Bethmann Hollweg told the reichstag Germany would not seek peace at the cost of dignity or safety and is willing to discuss peace. He said Germany accepts responsibility for victories but will not bow to politicians who ignore duties, warning peace must shorten the war.
