Berlin reports Bucharest fell to German forces in a decisive blow after a three month war since King Ferdinand joined. General Von Mackensen likely led entry as 300,000 residents faced upheaval. Rumanians and Russians reportedly evacuated. the capital was described as the Balkans’ strongest fortress.
Minnesota Congressman Lindenbergh proposed a House resolution to pressure Europe for peace by threatening to cut off all financial and commercial aid to the warring nations. The measure asks Senate and House committees to work with the president to seek European peace and to adopt restrictive steps if the threat proves ineffective.
Dec 6 report says the Romanian capital Bukharest is surrounded on three sides by Teuton forces. General Von Mackensen advances from the south to complete the circle and cut off Romanian and Russian defenders in the fortresses around the city. About half of Romania is under Teuton domination.
El Paso December 6 reports fear in Juarez for General Gonzales commander of the Juarez garrison who left for Chihuahua Monday with a hundred men and has not arrived authorities fear he and his escorts may have fallen into Villa hands.
Petrograd reports another retirement of Russians and Rumanians northwest of Bucharest. Germans penetrate several allied positions as Russians fall back with heavy losses. Russians continue attacks in the Carpathian forests without success.
War dispatch notes a continued lull in major combat on the western front with only artillery duels reported along the Somme sector. Insufficient action observed suggests a quiet period despite ongoing conflict activity.
Bucharest serves as the winter residence of the royal family, parliament meeting place, and appeal court seat. It is a fortress city housing 30,000 cavalry and infantry, an arsenal, military hospital, three academies, and the national bank along with the Bank of Romania and numerous credit houses.
William Jennings Bryan visited the White House today for the first time since resigning as Secretary of State. He and his wife were hosted by President and Mrs. Wilson at the Mincheon residence in Washington on December 6.
Madrid Dec 6 The Spanish steamer Pro Nine was torpedoed in a storm about two hundred miles off the Canary Islands and hundreds are said to have drowned. The ship sailed from New Orleans for Barcelona on November 16 with a cotton cargo.

A stage running from Roger son Idaho to Jarbidge was robbed near the town, driver F M Searcy was killed by a rifle shot. The killer reportedly fled into a canyon. authorities sent guards to roads and trails, with a blood soaked overcoat and mail matter recovered. The U S Postal Inspectors and sheriff’s office are investigating.
Secretary of State Lansing announced that Felix Diaz, Carranza rival, has been located in Guatemala after months of searching. He is said to have raised an army of ten thousand men and plans to march into Mexico to spark a new revolution. The inquiry began last summer amid reports he funded Villa with money and munitions.
Five prisoners were turned over to penitentiary officers yesterday. Nye County Sheriff Charles Slavin arrived with Charles Comis ford, sentenced from 10 years to life for murder of B. W. Riley, and Wm. Vannich, sentenced from 1 to 2 years for assault. Humboldt Sheriff Lamb brought in G. H. Ray and Jose Drive, to serve 1 to 2 years for assault. Elko Sheriff Harris delivered Lewis Delaney, sentenced from 12 to eighteen months for burglary.

Edith Colby a Thompson Falls reporter was found guilty of second degree murder for shooting A. C. Thomas a Montana politician. The jury deliberated about twelve hours. The defense argued emotional insanity and claimed Thomas insulted her. Sentence ranges from ten to twelve years in the state penitentiary.
County treasurer reports record tax receipts today with the largest sums since 1916. Railroads led contributions totaling 138 197 60 with Southern Pacific 76 724 61 Central Pacific 19 261 26 Western Pacific 32 000 52 Nevada Northern 10 211 21. Elko County tax roll shows taxable wealth of 33 041 873 00.

James E. Wetz known as the egg king has been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury about vast egg holdings. More than 70 million eggs stored in his name across cold storage plants, with May eggs not to be released until after year’s start or until prices rise to 79 cents a dozen. Officials say Wetz may be a figurehead and that a trust owns the eggs. storage house heads will testify.
