BK Corporation to Unify Powers for Development

The Independent heralds a get-together movement for Elko County upbuilding centered on the Elko Rodeo and County Stock Fair, $40,000 capital, to form a countywide stockholding corporation. British Censors Doctored News Provoking Allied Protest

New York World correspondent Karl H von Wiegand and nine others have filed a protest through Ambassador Gerard accusing British censorship in London of doctoring and suppressing dispatches. Von Wiegand says July yielded 72 submitted messages. 21 show doctored content and 51 were suppressed, amid Britain’sCable control and wartime policy against German‑favoring material.

Enraged editors to fight a duel in Birmingham

In Birmingham Alabama on August 22 E W Barrett editor of the Birmingham Age Herald and Victor Hanson editor of the Birmingham News plan a duel after a dispute over a published card. Public Safety Commissioner Annie Harber has warrants for arrest to avert the duel, while both editors prepare for a possible confrontation. The Rotary Club failed to broker arbitration. Hanson demanded a disavowal from Barrett who accepted responsibility and offered to meet Hanson. Both sides seek a settlement but a clash seems imminent.

County Recorder W. G. Greathouse and companions toured Ruby Valley Elko County reporting bumper crops and splendid ranch buildings. They praised alfalfa crops at Short ranch and Edward Lutz s concrete reservoir, noted new barns and luxurious homes, and urged a scenic motor tour through South Fork Lee Skelton Harrison Pass Cave Spring ranch and back to Cave Spring with emphasis on county development and the Elko Rodeo and Stock Fair.

Railway chiefs name eight to frame Willow plan facts

Washington Aug 22 The railroad presidents named an eight man committee to outline facts for consideration of a possible compromise on the Willow plan. The group will not draft counter proposals or judge acceptance, but will discard collateral questions. Presidents will confer with the President. E H Holden Jr, planning a metals reclamation business at Tuscarora, married recently in Salt Lake City and honeymooning in Southern California with E K Stalle. the party aims to return to Elko within a fortnight.

Eminent Judge of Races Engaged for Nevada State Fair

Mr Leighton of Montreal has been engaged by the Nevada State Fair Association to preside as a judge at races in Fallon on Sept Tito 1% inclusive. He is noted as one of the world’s foremost racing judges with service in England France Germany Australia and across North America. Mr L A Henderson of Elko will serve as associate Judge.

W Nariara Proves Davis Innocence In Montello Case

Attorney M McNamara of Elko argued the alleged innocence of J O Davis of Cobh who was arraigned before Justice Thurston on an assault charge. After reviewing testimony the court dismissed the charge, noting Nalla was hospitalized five days after being struck on the head July 19 at Cobre. The State was represented by D A Ted Carville and special prosecutor Moricy Griswold.
