Naval Battle Off English Coast In North Sea Engagement

German and English squadrons clashed in the North Sea near the Suffolk coast. German battleships, guided by presumed zeppelins, fired on Lowestoft before being spotted by British forces. By noon the admiralty said German ships were withdrawing, with British ships in pursuit.

Elko Pioneer Dies in Missouri

Jesse E. Snider reports the death of his mother in Missouri on the eleventh inst. The Elko and Tuscarora resident died at sixty seven after moving east with her husband in 1887. She leaves two sons, Jesse and Ben. She was beloved by old pioneers of the region.

J. H. Andrews, a pioneer Tonopah expressman, was severely injured yesterday when his team spooked near the Mineral street police station. He leapt clear as the horses bolted toward Water street, breaking his left arm and dislocating his left shoulder.

Grand Jury Reconsiders Indictment in Bachman Case

The grand jury met at ten this morning to review horse theft charges against Sam Bachman. The court ordered resubmission of the last indictment, leaving only a charge of driving horses out of state without inspection intact. Attorneys for Bachman objected to preliminary exam and jury selection irregularities, but objections were overruled and a panel from Elko and nearby towns was selected with A B Carden as chairman.
