Chicago officials opened an inquiry into reports that speculators stockpiled food to corner markets. Grocers imposed limits as shelf space vanished, with canned goods sugar and flour in demand. Mrs Morse of the homemakers chief urged national action appealing to women's patriotism.
A committee led by Mrs. Otto T Williams and Judge J C Doughty received authority from Governor Boyle and Red Cross director John L Clymer to organize a chapter in Biko. The group plans a permanent structure immediately after Mr Jensen’s involvement.
Secretary McAdoo announced that treasury certificates of indebtedness up to two billion dollars in the seven billion dollar war finance measure will be issued as often as necessary to meet treasury needs as soon as the bill becomes law.
Columbus officials report hotel proprietors after a morning conference with Governor Cox will save potato eyes for seed. Eye samples are to be distributed to backyard gardeners, signaling a local seed initiative in Columbus on April 20.

Topeka April 20 Fifty five percent of the 1917 wheat crop in Kansas has been abandoned leaving the smallest acreage planted since 1897 according to the official crop report. Attempts to break through in the Champagne section have been frustrated as French forces used more than thirty divisions on both battlefields after the Somme.
Washington dispatch states that discharge from the national guard will not be granted to enlisted men solely for marriage. A soldier with independent means preventing his family from becoming a government charge will not be mustered out.

He estimated 25 million dollars required to carry out the plans.
A reunion in honor of Mr. B. S. Farrington brought Taber families together at Lander Taber’s residence. Four Taber brothers and their spouses occupied the gathering with sixteen attendees. Mrs. Farrington was the standout, lively and cherished by all, highlighting a proud multi generation bond with nine grandchildren.
