Explorer Explains Biblical Miracles From Palestine Visit

Professor Camden M. Cobern explorer and archaeologist returned from Palestine and explained two biblical miracles. He described Moses striking the rock at Kadesh Barnea to reveal water and noted the oasis is small and sacred to Arabs. Cobern cited a century wide wind phenomenon making a Red Sea crossing possible and discussed route choices of the Israelites.

Officers Busy On Fur Robbery

A letter from Bissenger & Co. Reno says the Elko chief of police lists furs stolen from Elko Hide & Junk Co. on the night of the 6th. Officers nationwide pursue the case as the firm plans to notify wholesalers, retailers and pawnbrokers that the stolen furs will be traced and seized.

Piute Outlaw Tse-Ne-Gat to Face Federal Trial

Special to the Independent from Denver reports Tse-Ne-Gat also called Tsequit, a Piute linked to Utah’s recent Indian war, arrives to stand trial in a Colorado district court for killing Mexican Ramos near Cortez. Fatal Accident Narrowly Averted at Railroad Crossing

George Ames of Lamoille Valley escaped serious harm when his wagon team narrowly avoided a collision with an approaching locomotive at a crossing west of the Southern Pacific depot on Commercial Street. The near tragedy, witnessed by bystanders, prompts calls for opening the street and installing electric gates to prevent future deaths, as described in the Daily Independent.

Arguments Opened in Harvester Suit

The government’s dissolution suit against International Harvester opened in the supreme court with two full days of oral arguments. Only director John P. Wilson appeared, as the case began three years after filing in federal district court of Minnesota. The lower court heard over 1200 witnesses, ruling the company a Sherman Act violation and directing dissolution into at least three independent entities.

Assemblyman Baker reports a mad coyote killed at the Domingo Bengoa ranch ten miles north of McDermitt after biting dogs a pig a calf and the racehorse Overland.
