Frank Anselme of St. Louis took his 16 year old sister Irene from Christiana lake after she complained of mistreatment by his wife. They returned to the city to catch the 6 oclock westbound train, as police were alerted too late.
Mr and Mrs W S Carter of Baldwin prairie celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at home with 75 guests. An elaborate supper followed, D B Kindig toastmaster, and the couple wore their original wedding costumes as music by Miss Kellogg played.
Joseph Caiger aged 49 pleaded guilty in St. Joseph circuit court to two counts of larceny involving steers from a farm near the Michigan line. Co defendant P Kenyon Compton seeking to quash indictment, bond set at 590 dollars each, both jailed.
Elkhart baseball players A Dotson and James Caiger signed with Concord New Hampshire in the New England league with Dotson in the outfield and Caiger at second base. They depart April 1. Major S. A. Collins promoter of the Winona Warsaw Elkheart South Bend electric railroad traverses Warsaw Leesburg Milford and other Kosciusko county points. He notes three surveyed routes and says proper arrangements can be made to secure financial support for building the line through these towns.
The bill aims to replace fee based income for justices and constables with salaries paid by township trustees after audits. Lincoln Nebraska November 24 1921 it was disclosed a package valued at 40000 dollars was stolen from the Adams Express car on the Burlington Portland train at the Burlington depot Friday night. A messenger set the package down while moving other parcels and it vanished while his back was turned.
In Havana on November 24 a tobacco workers strike triggered widespread disorder as mobs attacked streetcars and public places. Capt. Maso and three strikers were killed. rioters clashed with police and a palace assault was repelled. U S Minister Squires sought protection for Americans and Palma warned the cabinet to resign as the government faced collapse.
Chicago November 24 The defense asked to remove the case from the jury and declare a not guilty verdict arguing the evidence conflicts with the indictment. The request was denied and the trial continued. Police lack clues on the mail wagon robbery at the Masonic Temple last Saturday with losses reportedly exceeding 100000 dollars. Security for over that amount, including negotiable papers and large sums of money, were in the stolen sacks along with more than 2000 dollars in postal funds.
New York reports Dominick Santo and Tony Mentz, alleged anarchists, arrested on suspicion of plotting to assassinate President Loubet. They were fined $3 each this morning after police failed to prove any plot existed.
Paris reports an autopsy by American physicians on the body of Mrs. Ellen Gore, who was killed in the apartments of Prince Deéryzewolski. An American lawyer was present at the preliminary examination.
Elkhart to see a new post office at Main and Jackson with plans moving from Washington. Bucklen may use Main Jackson corner for an interurban railway station linking Napanee and South Bend lines. work could start spring with bids next fall.
In a long standing suit Phineas W. Sweet is charged with non support and cruel and inhuman treatment for striking his wife. The couple married in 1874 and separated in October 1893. The parties are Elkhart residents with P. B. Turner listed as the plaintiff's attorney.
Marriage licenses have been issued to Harry Chester Reed of Elkhart with parents consent, Elsie M. McCoy of Elkhart aged 21, Ezra Stauffer of Harrison township aged 25, Lydia Reed of Harrison township aged 21, Paul A. Mahn of Goshen aged 25, and Myrtle Rapp of Goshen aged 20.
D. E. Boyts of Shakespeare Indiana and Lulu D. Eckelbarger of Waterford Indiana were married in Buffalo New York on September 24. Boyts formerly lived here and is a son of J. P. Boyts who once ran a restaurant in town.
Alien Rogers and Abbie Winona McKelvey both of Elkhart aged 22 and 20 respectively obtained licenses. John B. Monschien Sr. and Ruth Blass of Elkhart aged 53 completed licensing.
Word from Wakarusa reports oil filling the well on the Davidhizer farm after Jacob Rohrer sank a bottle to 358 feet. The bottle surfaced with lubricating oil, drawing crowds as claims spread the pipe holds oil to that depth. St. Joseph Gas Oil and Mining firm member S H Dunwell travels to plug the well.
Zeltinger a gas house employee faced a preliminary hearing before Judge Kaymer for stealing 40 dollars from fellow worker William Shiller and was held for the circuit court under a 300 dollar bond.
Dr Turner and Frank Marchesseau rode about six miles in the country on a hunting trip and trespassed on a Polander's farm. The Polander pursued with a gun, forcing the two men to flee. Turner used a whisky bottle and a war whoop in a futile attempt to deter the pursuer. Both men collapsed from exhaustion for an hour.
