A violent windstorm swept northern and central Indiana causing injuries and telegraph disruptions while floods threatened southern areas. In South Bend debris caused severe injuries to Albert Koehler and Fred Cook as winds wrecked buildings and cut utilities.
A severe wind storm in Kalamazoo caused plate glass damage and a collapsing brick stack at Standard Paper Mills. Ten year old Ad am Misser died after being struck by a falling wall. Mrs. Simalley of Vicksburg suffered a broken hip and faces death. Four buildings lost rear walls in Menden and a dry goods store unit was blown out. LaPorte Indiana reported $10,000 in factory and utility damages including roof losses at several plants and the Buckingham Bros. plant. Rail service in Memphis and region faced suspension with limited, delayed operations and roadbed damage near Fulton Kentucky.
A seventy mile per hour gale struck Buffalo on November 22 causing extensive damage. Trees, wires and several houses under construction were blown down while city water works sustained about $50,000 in damage.
Elkhart carpenters are invited to a Mishawaka city hall meeting hosted by the South Bend Carpenters Union announcing a new union organization. Delegates from South Bend Elkhart and Mishawaka are expected to participate as charter members join on the ground floor.
Three hundred relatives of victims killed in the B&O wreck at Woodville came to Chesterton today for the immigrants service. Polish priests from Chicago conducted a quiet mass.
William Nichols alias Frank Nelson was arrested by Marshal Self in Goshen and held in the county jail on a Woodford county horse theft charge from last summer. An Illinois sheriff has a warrant and will come for him. Nichols denies the charge and says he was in Woodford at the time. His wife, who is blind, accompanies him. investigators suspect his stepfather William Hoover may be involved.
Reports from Cherbourg say twelve steerage passengers died in the collision between the Kaiser Wilhelm and the Lorraine. Four steerage deaths aboard the Lorraine and four aboard the Kaiser are also noted. Five crew members from the Lorraine and four from the Kaiser are listed as lost. Kaiser passengers were transferred to the Lorraine and St Paul, which sail Sunday.
The final hearing in the National Manufacturing Co bankruptcy case will be held before Referee Lambert in South Bend next Tuesday. Trustee Strafford Maxon has so far declared two dividends to creditors.
Governor Hanly appointed John W. Hanan of LaGrange as the Democratic member of the board of trustees for the eastern hospital for the insane at Richmond. He fills the vacancy after the resignation of C K McCullough. Anderson was recently elected to the legislature.
Dr. H. H. B. Jennings and Dr. E. M. Hoover of Elkhart are among the successful applicants who passed the second semi annual license examination for practicing medicine in Indiana before the State Board of Medical Registration.
Victor Trudeau, injured in a Lake Shore locomotive boiler explosion near South Bend about six weeks ago, is now much worse. He suffers spinal meningitis and delirium, with jaw injury hindering treatment until spinal condition improves.
A man cashed a $4500 draft at First State Bank in August and then disappeared. Mrs. Rodegeb has visited multiple boarding places in search of information about her husband. She learned he took his trunk to locate another boarding house and later learned the man had not been there. Suspects foul play are suspected as details emerge about his movements and money withdrawal.
Domestic relations report says Isaac W Rodegeb, a Nappanee carpenter who worked in Elkhart last summer, vanished after cashing a draft at First State Bank. Family fears robbery involved. Mystery surrounds his sudden absence with few clues found.
City officials settled a $225 claim against Beardsley Avenue and Middlebury Street contractors after forgoing $25 and covering court costs. Councilman Lounsberry cited city obligations for Hitchcock’s services while alleging a $500 bribery offer. Absentees at the meeting were not addressed. Health Inspector Quaife praised for diligent service.

At Valparaiso an inquest into the Woodville Indiana wreck where 61 died heard Engineer Galnauer testify he signaled a freight train but got no reply. He wept as prosecutors urged manslaughter charges against him and two freight crew members. Coroner ordered Galnauer's arrest and the case sent to the grand jury for December 12.
Platt Elwell of Goshen Avenue was caught beneath an overturned building as a strong windstorm raged yesterday. Authorities fear fatal injuries if rescued.
