Post Office Looted at Bristol by Six Robbers
A Bristol post office was broken into between 1 and 2 am. Six men, led by an organizer, dynamited the safe and seized about $400 in cash plus stamps while neighbors were fired upon. Ray Shaner and Mrs. Bickel were wounded non-fatally as a posse, led by Sheriff Ellicott, hunts the organized gang across northern Indiana.

Col R M Johnson Dies After Illness in Goshen Home
Col Ruel M. Johnson died at 1:30 PM at the Goshen home of his wife Jeanette Gortner Johnson and her parents on Sixth Street. Born 1836 in Erie County Pa he spent most of his life in Elkhart and was long a respected lawyer and Civil War veteran. Survived by his wife and brother Guy Johnson, he owned several business blocks and was active in civic affairs. Funeral arrangements have not been set.

Death of Chicago fireman struck by switch engine
Cassius E. Thompson of Chicago, a fireman for the Illinois Central, was killed instantly yesterday morning while alighting from a suburban train at Twenty-Sixth Street. He leaves a wife Miss Minta Leonard and brothers across Indiana Michigan and Kentucky, with remains to be brought home for burial.

Funeral Held Without Body for Miss Newcomer
Miss Newcomer’s funeral proceeded last Friday at South Bend with a large gathering though the body did not arrive as planned. Relatives from distant places attended and a brief service was held. the remains arrived Sunday at 5 o clock and were buried in City cemetery after a short prayer.

Tragic Departure for Anna Newcomer in Salinas Case
Miss Anna Newcomer a Indiana native who came to California with Epworth League friends died by her own hand in Salinas after a period of illness. Dr Cassell who treated her had planned to accompany her to Arkansas where her sister lives and had arranged funds for the journey. She had returned to Almeda then Salinas and after a brief stay there grew weaker and began showing signs of distress before the fatal act.

Falling river levels shrink St Joseph waterway findings
An aged St Joseph fisherman reports river depths near the mouth have fallen three feet over 25 years. The river is at its lowest on record with a large sandbar south of the bridge out of the water at inches. The Elkhart area also shows very low levels affecting water power for factories.

Death of Col. R. M. Johnson shocks Goshen community
The death of Col. Ruel M. Johnson, born June 5 1826 in Erie county Pennsylvania, widow and sister survive. His long Civil War service with the 100th Indiana Infantry included captaincy majoring and a famed escape, later a lawyer in Goshen, Elkhart, and Santa Fe before returning to Elkhart county. Funeral Friday at 2 pm from his late home with Rev H L Vannuys officiating. Interment Oak Ridge cemetery.

Jerome Stone was granted a divorce from Eva Stone and given custody of three children Vernon E. 14 Alfred M. 9 Walter A. 4. Eva left for Osceola with Charles Francis a saloon keeper. Francis fled with Eva to Eagle Lake then Toledo. Stone pursued and an armed confrontation occurred. Eva later lived with Francis in Elkhart and Toledo as custody questions lingered.
