Mine Fire Traps 322 Workers Near West Philadelphia

A mine near West Philadelphia exploded in fire damp last evening trapping 322 men. Fire blocks escapes and only 38 survivors, badly injured, are known to have escaped. Reports estimate deaths from 150 to 300.

Ludlow of the Indianapolis Star reports Chas W. Miller addressed Elkhart County voters on November 3 explaining the so called tail end of the shamp in the Thirteenth district. James Utley of two miles east of Goshen left with the forefinger of his right hand torn off yesterday afternoon while shredding corn on Adam Yoder’s farm in Clinton Township. A spinning gear pulled him toward the mechanism but Freud Yoder grasped him and saved his hand.
