Tariff Changes Rise From Lake Shore Freight Rates
New freight tariffs proposed by the Central Freight Association and Lake Shore & Michigan Southern raise costs across the line from Elkhart to Chicago. The Lake Shore rates, effective August 1, exceed the CFA sheet, with first class up 11 cents per hundred for five miles and substantial increases across all classes up to 450 miles. The CFA sheet is preliminary, and the commission anticipates adopting it later this year as Lake Shore rates set the baseline. The changes affect numerous connecting lines and stations on the Lake Shore route.
